Hello hello! I’m Liz, a Brooklyn-based writer and the author of More Than Mom.

I became a parent in March of 2020 shortly after the world shut down. As a result, giving birth was a hard reset on life as I knew it, with no returns or exchanges.

The bright side: Half a decade later, I love being Shay and Emma’s mom. And sometimes? I love them so much that I could LITERALLY EXPLODE!!!!

But I’m also a lot of other things—like a former Cosmo fitness and health editor; a freelance writer with bylines in Scary Mommy, Romper, The Bump, etc., etc.; the voice behind Hotel Lilien, where I head up content, social, and comms; a daughter (hi, Mom!); a wife (hi, David!); a sister; a friend; a derelict book club member; and a very (very) amateur baker/crafter. If that sounds like a lot, well, it is. (And no, I don’t have full-time childcare.)

More Than Mom is my place to reckon with all of it.

I know firsthand how easy it is to get lost in the mom role and forget there’s a whole person underneath it—someone who has goals, needs a manicure, and at least makes an effort to maintain some semblance of a social life that extends beyond children’s birthday parties. See, my great fear is that my kids will grow up and leave me, taking so much that all that’s left of their mom is this sad, sad shell of a person. I don’t want that for me—or for you.

For me, More Than Mom is the anecdote. It’s a place where I use my very own voice —not the one I use to talk to my kid’s teachers!—to share relatable essays, expert advice, tips on how to sneak in some self-care (ideally, sans guilt), and the occasional rant about how hard it is to find time for literally a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g while raising tiny humans. It’s an anchor to bring me back to baseline—because I’m a mom, but also more: I’m funny, I’m ambitious, I’m fucking tired, and I’m excited for a outlet to help me process this bizarre, but beautiful (and never boring!) journey.

So grab a coffee (or something stronger, I never judge), and subscribe to stick around for the ride.

Big big thank you for being here!
